How can I receive the prasadam from the Shivratri Rudrabhishekam event?
In this blog post, learn about the special Rudrabhishekam prasadsam and how to receive it.
The Devotional Sentiment of Offering
In the Sanatan way of living everything can be seen as an offering to the divine: the words we speak, the work we do, and also the food we eat. At many homes and in all temples, the food (Naivedyam) is first lovingly offered to the deity. After Puja, this offered food becomes prasadam, meaning ‘grace’ or ‘blessing’ from the divine. When the devotees receive prasadam, they actually get the deity’s blessings that purify mind, body and soul.
Many Types of Prasadam
Prasadam can take many forms. Apart from food items, flowers, basil leaves, and garlands offered to the deity are also given as prasadam. Sacred ash (Vibhuti) and Radrakash are two important offerings in the puja of Lord Shiv, which are then given as prasadam.
Vibhuti and Rudraksh
Lord Shiv, the greatest Yogi, adorns his body with Vibhuti or Bhasm—a reminder of detachment from the impermanent material world. It symbolises the eternal cycle of life. Everything gets reduced to dust one day. And, from destruction begins new creation and transformation. Vibhuti is a great way of transferring Lord Shiv’s energy to the devotee.
Similarly, rudraksh beads also carry the protective energy of Rudra Bhagwan. The word ‘rudraksh’’ means the eye of Rudra. Rig Veda mentions, ‘Rukha Dravyati Iti Rudra’. Sri Rudra removes misery, by transforming tears of sorrow into tears of bliss. According to several Vedic texts, rudraksh seeds got formed from Mahadev’s tears. Thus, rudraksh beads are a powerful carrier of consecrated energy.
