Why do the Lalita Sahasranama yagna?

Why do the Lalita Sahasranama yagna?

In this blog post, you will learn how yagna with Ma Lalita’s powerful names impact us.

Fire has been an essential aspect of human life since the beginning of civilization. In Sanatana Dharma, fire is revered as divine and called ‘Agni Deva’ and Jataveda.

The Power of Yagna

Fire offerings are known as Yagna in Sanskrit, which means sacrifice. The sacrifice is about surrendering to a higher dimension or Supreme Self.

The time-honoured ritual of yagna was developed by our ancient seers for invoking the Supreme Self (deity), thanking them, sending them various offerings, and seeking their blessings and favours. Yagna is a purification process. The sacred yagna fire burns our afflictions and negative tendencies.

Invoking the Fire of Consciousness

By doing Lalita Sahasranama yagna, we deepen our connection with Mother Divine, our latent energy, who removes inner darkness and inspires us to reach our full potential.

In Lalita Sahasranama, two of Devi Ma’s names are Chidagni Kunda Sambhuta and Devakarya Samudyata.

On first glance, and at a literal level, these names suggest how the glorious Mother Divine emerged from the yagna kunda to aid the Devas in fulfilling their task (of destroying Bhandasura).

On a subtle level, ‘Chidagni Kunda Sambhuta’ is the one born in the firepit of our consciousness. Ma Lalita is the supreme consciousness who removes all darkness and ignorance.

Sri Krishna’s words echo the same thought in Bhagavad Gita, “like a fire turning the fire logs into ashes, the fire of knowledge burns all karmas (good or bad) into ashes.” (BG: Chapter IV, Verse 7).

Mother Divine is Devakaryasamudyata— the one who facilitates the work of Devas. ‘Another Deva karya’ refers to endeavours of goodness. It means that when, like the Devas, we immerse ourselves in the firepit of consciousness, Devi arises out of it to destroy our limitations. She shows us our true nature and abilities.

Ma Lalita resides in the Sri Yantra. The central triangle of the Sri Yantra represents the fire altar. In the body of a Sadhak, it is represented by the Crown chakra or Sahasrara which has a central hole called Brahma Randhra. The energy or flame that rises through this hole is the flame of consciousness. As Kundalini, Ma Lalita lies sleeping in the lowest chakra of the body or Muladhara. When properly invoked through intense sadhana, this sleeping power awakens and rises like a flame through the spinal column to meet Lord Shiva at the Sahasrara. This process is called ‘the glowing of inner fire.’

Yagna: An Ongoing Internal Process

Yagna is not just a physical ritual but an internal process. Through their tapas, our sages had realised that internalising rituals and ceremonies can help build an intimate connection with the Ishta.

At Sadhana we have leveraged technology to simplify ancient rituals. You can perform  yagna with single minded concentration without worrying about proper Vedic chanting and use of pure ingredients, often a major concern during physical yagna.

The upcoming Lalita Sahasranama Yagna is a golden opportunity to express gratitude to Mother Divine and seek her blessings in the new year. You can make offerings with the chants of her beautiful names under the guidance of Sri Vidya Siddha, Shri Om Swami.

Really loved the way you explained the meanings with depth. Will definitely do the yagna. I have a question where will I find the entire Lalita Sahasranama with meaning, as in the book of legends of Goddesses, only Sri suktam is there.

Thank you thank you so much for all the valuable information. So grateful!
