Ma Skandmata’s Radiant Form and the Benefits of Her Sadhana
Devi Skandamata represents a loving and protective mother. Her maternal love helps us grow and reach our full potential. She teaches her devotees to turn raw emotions like anger into positive, practical actions.
Visualising Devi Skandamata
The fair-complexioned Devi Skandamata affectionately holds her six-headed baby boy, Skanda or Kartikeya, on her left thigh with her right hand. She is also the mother of the six systems of knowledge or philosophy – Nyaya, Vaisheshika, Sankhya, Yoga, Vedanta, and Mimamsa. These are the six limbs of the Vedas or body of knowledge.
In her other two hands, she has lotuses, and the fourth hand is displayed in the Abhay mudra (gesture of fearlessness). Interestingly, Devi Sakandmata does not carry weapons. Her three lustrous eyes radiate maternal love for all her children. Since she sits on a lotus flower while meditating, she gets the name ‘Padmasani.’ Due to her fair complexion, she is also called ‘Shubhra.’
Protective of her devotees like her own children, Skandmata rides a lion and destroys our internal and external demons, much like she prepared Lord Kartikeya to kill Tarkasura!
She is a very kind and affectionate form of Nava Durga. It is said that worshipping Devi Skandamata also brings the blessings of Lord Skanda, her son.
Blessings and Benefits
Devi Skandamata’s puja and sadhana have several spiritual benefits. Being a mother, her affection is always abundant towards her devotees. When a devotee calls out to her with love and sincerity, she destroys their obstacles and blesses them with all-round prosperity.
Here are some benefits of Skandamata's Sadhana:
🌸bestows the devotee with healthy and virtuous children.
🌸removes aggressive tendencies and calms the mind.
🌸resolves fights between arch-enemies and brings peace
🌸 protects in litigation matters.
🌸grants material comforts and abundance.
🌸grants peace, happiness, and harmony in family life.
🌸gives the strength to fight doubts and negative emotions.
Devi Skandmata and the Kundalini Connection
As the mother of the divine commander-in-chief, Skanda, Devi Skandmata represents the balanced force of nurturing love and the fierce energy required to protect and defend what is sacred. In the human body, she is associated with the Vishuddha Chakra (throat chakra), which governs communication, self-expression, and truth.
When this Chakra is imbalanced, our emotions get suppressed, and we may struggle to communicate freely. By invoking the grace of Devi Skandamata, we can unlock the true potential of this chakra by expressing it with ease and clarity. A well-balanced Vishuddhi Chakra allows open communication.
The Tantric Invocation
Tantric invocation: Mritsanjivani Sumukhi, Chamunda
One of the nine Tantric forms of Devi is invoked as Chamunda, Mritasanjivani, and Sumukhi as per the Durga Tantra and Vamkeshvara Tantra. Devi Chamunda derived her name after slaying the twin demons "Chanda" and "Munda."
Invoke her with her potent mantra, which removes negativity, protects, and blesses the devotees with success, creativity, and self-confidence. May the grace of Devi Skandamata descend upon you.
Om Devi Skandamatre Namah!
Nav Durga Sadhana
In the potent Nav Durga Sadhana, Devi Skandmata is invoked as the fifth form of Ma Durga. She represents the energy of self-restraint and discipline, much like a warrior’s strict training. A warrior knows how to harness anger for a higher purpose, and Ma Skandamata teaches us the same.
The Sanskrit word ‘Durg’ means a ‘fort.’ The one who seeks Devi Ma is ever-protected by the strongest of forts —her grace and protection. She becomes the Sadhak’s Durg, a fort that would never fail them.
