Ma Siddhidatri: Her Radiant Form and Sadhana
Ma Siddhidatri represents spiritual perfection and self-realization. Her calm and glowing presence radiates divine grace, drawing the devotion of gods, sages, and spiritual seekers. She is the bestower, Datri, of mystic yogic powers and ashta siddhis.
Draped in a red sari, Ma is blissfully seated on a pink lotus and holding a fully bloomed lotus, conch, mace and chakra in her four beautiful hands. She has a lovely smile and blesses her devotees with siddhis for success, peace, and fulfillment. Let’s explore the deeper symbolism hidden in her form.
1. Lotus: She sits on a fully bloomed lotus, indicating that she completes the blossoming of the spiritual aspirant. The consciousness which was just awakening (budding lotus) in the first chakra as Devi Shailaputri has now travelled to the crown and fully bloomed as Devi Siddhidatri.
2. Red Saree: It symbolises auspiciousness and action. Ma Siddhidatri is forever destroying evil, protecting, and gracing her devotees.
3. Worshipers: Great sages and even demons go to her for the final attainment
4. Mace: It symbolises power, removal of ignorance, and a final blow to the ego
5. Discus (chakra): Cuts through our sanchit karmas.
6. Conch: It symbolises victory. The sound of a conch takes us back to the source. The real Siddhi that Ma provides is the realisation that only she exists. She presides over all achievements and perfections.
The Blessings of Her Worship
Devi Siddhidatri, the compassionate goddess, bestows profound blessings on her devotees that support all aspects of life, both material and spiritual. Here are some more benefits of her sadhana.
1. Divine guidance and protection.
2. Inner strength, courage, and confidence.
3. Deeper understanding of one’s self, purpose, and spiritual potential.
Ma Siddhidatri and the Kundalini Connection
In the Durga Saptashati, King Surath and the merchant named Samadhi perform the Nav Durga Sadhana for three years with reverence and surrender. At the end of their sadhana, Ma Siddhidatri gives them her vision and grants them boons.
‘Surath’ means an acceptable vehicle— 'rath’ is a chariot, a vehicle. The most extraordinary vehicle is insight or wisdom, the ability to know right from wrong. And, the ability to rise above duality and achieve oneness is known as ‘Samadhi,’ the final outcome. It is like the rise of Kundalini power.
The demons that Mother Divine destroys are divided into three categories, representing the three psychic knots that block the energy flow: Brahma Granthi, Vishnu Granthi, and Rudra Granthi. They are knots that will create thoughts, knots that will sustain those thoughts, and knots that will propel you to fulfil them or destroy them. When you move beyond these inner knots, you experience true oneness — this is the core message of the Durga Saptashati.
In the form of Devi Siddhidatri, Ma Durga bestows immense grace and blessings of divine power, spiritual evolution, and attainment of the state of Shiva Shaktityatmika (merging with universal collective consciousness).
On the ninth day of Navratri, meditating on this form of Ma Durga, above the Sahasrara chakra, establishes the Sadhak in Sat Chit Anand (Truth-Consciousness-Bliss).
The Tantric invocation of Ma Siddhidatri
Ma Siddhidatri is invoked in tantric tradition as Parachandi, Simhamukhi, or Narayani.
The energy of her extremely powerful mantra is invoked on the ninth and last day of Nav Durga Sadhana.
Fill your heart with deep love and respect for the Divine Mother today as she holds you gently like a blooming flower in her lap.
May she always guide and inspire everything you do!
Om Devi Siddhidatryai Namah!
Nav Durga Sadhana
In the potent Nav Durga Sadhana, Devi Siddhidatri is invoked on the ninth day. With her blessings devotees reach a state of perfection where they can transform their thoughts into meaningful actions for greater good.
The Sanskrit word ‘Durg’ means a ‘fort’. The who seeks Devi Ma is ever-protected by the strongest of forts —her grace and protection. She becomes the Sadhak’s Durg, a fort that would never fail them.
